Kadence and I saw Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland recently - and holy cow!
I am in love with Alice's "Um" dress.
(This is the dress she wears when she while in the Red Queens court, as "Um from Umbridge". It is suggested the dress is made from curtains...)
The first time this dress appeared on screen I leaned over to Kadence and whispered "I want to make that!"
She thoroughly agrees it is awesome.
With rows and rows of delicious chiffon ruffles I can see this will be a hot boutique item from eBay to Etsy.
I don't think it would be terribly difficult to recreate either, so maybe for Halloween next year...
This was not the only beautiful frock on screen, Alice's Blue dress seems to be inspiring wedding dresses also.. Check out this link for more Alice-y eye candy: Wedding Trends inspired by Alice-in-Wonderland
I think it's pretty cool that a movie can influence fashion trends, especially ones as lovely as this. If anyone comes across some more amazing photos, links or knock offs please share!!

Tell me your opinion about the dress...
I ACTUALLY WANT THIS DRESS AS A WEDDING DRESS IM GETTING MARRIED NEXT HALLOWEEN AND THE RECEPTION IS A COUSTUME BALL IN WHICH ME AND MY FIANCE ARE GOING AS ALICE AND THE MAD HATTER BUT I WANT THIS ONE FOR THE ACTUAL WEDDING CEREMONY AND ANOTHER DRESS SHE WEARS AS MY BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES
ReplyDeletehey Randi - that sounds like a blast! Are you making the dress yourself? Which dress are you using for your bridesmaid dresses?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this dress and I want one just like this for prom. Can you create one just like this for me? If not could you recommend me to someone that could? It would be so helpful. Keep in touch. My name is Kayla by the way.
ReplyDeleteHi Kayla, This would be a shop stopper for prom! Do you live in Utah?
ReplyDeleteNo, I live in Alabama.
ReplyDeleteBummer, something like this I'd want to be able to fit in person, but maybe you could shoot an email to the president of the Alambama ASG Chapter - birmingham@asg.org - She should be able to put you in touch with someone in your area who could make it for you, or help you make it yourself!
ReplyDeleteIf you do end up getting/making one please, please send me a picture, I know you'll look *wonder*ful! :o)Good luck!
Aww..Thanks sooo much. :)
ReplyDeleteThat helps me a lot!! :)
I live in Alabama as well and as soon as I saw this dress I thought PROM! I mean how awesome would that be. I am hoping Kaylaa doesn't go to my school cause that would suck. I asked a friend if she could make it for me and she said yes if I could find a pattern. So I am on a search for a pattern. Any helpful suggestions?
ReplyDeleteHow much would you charge to make this dress??
ReplyDeleteI love this dress. Though I do not understand very well. Is there not a sewing pattern for this dress?
ReplyDeleteNot that I know of, but I haven't searched recently. You could probably Frankenstein some patterns to get this look tho, or self draft something. It looks pretty basic.
ReplyDeleteOh... My...Gosh...When I first saw this movie I was like "I am going to wear that dress one day". Do you know how I could make this? I'm going to have my quinceanera next year and I want this as my outfit for my entrance because I am having Alice in Wonderland as my theme. If you can't tell me how to make it, could you tell me where I could buy it, but one that looks almost, if not exactly, like it. By the way my name is Mary
ReplyDeleteHi Mary!
ReplyDeleteIf you have some sewing skills you could probably Frankenstein this pattern like I mentioned above. Just look for something with a fitted bodice and full skirt. You could try making a petti-skirt without the narrow ruffle on the bottom using Nylon Chiffon or Tulle.

If you don't sew, try contacting your local ASG chapter to see if they have any one who does custom sewing that can work with you!
There is a good version available on Etsy too - it's $900 - yikes!
Good luck - if you do end up with one I'd love to see pictures!
